The Gavler Score
Every product on Gavler receives a composite score from 0 to 10. This score reflects two independent signals that together capture both expert authority and collective real-world experience.
Expert Consensus
Aggregated from professional reviews, editorial roundups, and recognized industry publications. Each source is weighted by publication credibility and review depth. This component represents the informed opinion of people who test products for a living.
Community Rating
Derived from authentic community votes on Gavler. Every registered user gets one vote per list, ensuring that no individual can disproportionately influence rankings. This component captures the lived experience of actual owners and users.
The Voting System
One Vote Per List
Every authenticated user gets exactly one vote per product list. This constraint is enforced at the database level with a unique constraint on user and list, making it architecturally impossible to double-vote.
Votes Move, Not Stack
If you change your mind and vote for a different product in the same list, your previous vote is atomically removed and your new vote applied. The total vote count stays honest and accurate at all times.
No Anonymous Votes
You must be signed in to vote. This prevents bot manipulation and ensures every vote is tied to a verifiable identity. Your votes are public on your profile — accountability is part of the system.
Ranking Integrity
Zero Sponsorship
No manufacturer, brand, or retailer can pay for placement or influence their ranking position. Rankings are determined entirely by score, which is derived entirely from expert reviews and community votes.
Open Data
Every vote count, every expert consensus score, and every community rating is visible on every product page. There are no hidden signals, no private weighting factors, and no proprietary algorithms.
Curated Lists
Products are added to lists by curators who specialize in their category. Curators select products based on availability, market relevance, and community interest — but they do not influence the ranking order, which is determined solely by votes and expert scores.
Continuous Updates
Rankings are live and update in real-time as new votes are cast. Products can rise or fall at any time. There are no locked rankings, no frozen scores, and no editorial overrides.
The Verdict
Each top-ranked product receives a written Verdict from the category curator — a concise expert opinion that contextualizes the score and explains why the community and experts converged on this product. Verdicts are editorial content written by humans, clearly attributed by name and role. They explain the ranking; they do not determine it.
